Chelsea Football Club have broken a record this year! They have the least number of points through 11 games of any defending champion in the history of the English Premier League. If that isn’t bad enough, the club is reportedly considering firing coach Jose Mourinho due to his team's very poor performances and lack of effort. There are many reasons for Roman Abramovich, owner of Chelsea Football Club, to fire or keep Jose, so here are the best reason to kick or keep him.
Keep Reason #1: Money
Jose Mourinho will make a reported 57 million dollars if he is fired by Chelsea this year. Wayne Rooney, James Rodriguez and Mesut Ozil are just a few players that could be purchased with 57 million dollars. Nobody wants to pay 57 million dollars to make someone go away, making this a major reason to keep the Portuguese manager.
Keep Reason #2: Who’s next?
What are Chelsea’s options if they were to fire Jose Mourinho? They could re-hire Carlo Ancelotti, but Ancelotti was already fired by Abramovich back in 2011. Brendan Rodgers is another option for Chelsea. Rodgers is a very good tactical manager, but is lacking heavily in the player relationship department, and at a club full of drama queens and prima donnas like Chelsea, that likely won't help Rodgers. The final option (and most likely option) is Pep Guardiola. Guardiola is one of the best coaches in the world and reports show he isn’t really settled in Bayern Munich. Guardiola is unquestionably a world class coach and would be quite the catch for the blues. The only problem is Guardiola is owned by Bayern Munich, and if Guardiola decides to stay in Munich then Chelsea will be forced to hire someone likely unworthy of the managerial position at Chelsea.
Keep Reason #3: The fans/entertainment
This reason also sort of goes along with money and is split into 2 different parts. part 1 is the Chelsea fans still love Mourinho. Most clubs complain and call for the firing of their coach when things go south, but there has been very few movements among Chelsea fans to fire Jose. Part 2 is the entertainment brought by Mourinho. You are lying to yourself it you aren't at least a little entertained by Mourinho's antics. He will pick a fight with anyone from insulting Lionel Messi to trashing on Arsene Wenger's tactics - Mourinho will challenge anyone. This leads to more followers flocking to the club and that leads to more money. And who doesn’t like more money?
Kick Reason #1: Form
Chelsea has clearly been abysmal this season and some of the blame has to go to Jose Mourinho. He is trying to change things up such as Ramires starting over Oscar and benching superstar Eden Hazard to send a message, but nothing is really working. It’s the coach's job to get the best out of his players and there is only one player who is playing to his potential for Chelsea and that is Willian who has 4 goals and 1 assist for Chelsea in all competitions.
Kick Reason #2: Squad support
None of the players are pleased with the start of the season and many are blaming Mourinho. This discontent has led to a locker room full of players who no longer are playing for the coach. There have been reports of a player speaking out against Jose Mourinho adding to the tensions between the Chelsea players and Mourinho. When the players no longer have the sense of urgency to win for their coach during a crisis, that is when it’s time for a new coach.
Kick Reason #3: Antics
Jose Mourinho has racked up a grand total of 217,355 dollars worth of fines during his time at Chelsea (most of that money is from this season). He’s also generally hated by just about any non-Chelsea supporter. He may be entertaining, but he is far from the protagonist in the story of the English Premier League. You can see his lack of restraint has spread through some of his players. Some examples are Diego Costa (arguably the most hated soccer player on the planet), Nemanja Matic (top ten in fouls commited this season with 21), and the team as a whole. Chelsea sits in 2nd in the fair play table which rates teams on how many yellow and red cards a team receives (first place is the team with most cards while last place has least amount of cards). Chelsea currently sits in second and are a yellow away from taking first place as the Blues have 21 yellow cards and 3 red cards in 11 games. The men of Chelsea have an attitude problem, and it all starts with the coach.
Chelsea has had very few ups and a lots of downs this season. Many feel Jose Mourinho will be fired if Chelsea doesn’t take 3 points home from the Britannia stadium and Stoke City this Saturday. There is a chance for Chelsea to go on a run as they play 5 teams on the lower half of the table in their next 7 games. Many fans believe there is still a Chance for the Special One to save his job and do something… well… special.
